  • CMA CGM demonstrates its commitment to adapting constantly to customers’ needs with a renewed shipping and logistics offering.

The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, in April launched a new service for the export of citrus fruits in reefer containers from Mozambique’s Port of Maputo, to Asia at Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas, using CMA CGM’s Asia Mozambique Express (MOZEX) service. This innovative solution represents a new sustainable solution as a citrus gateway port to the world.

A sustainable solution with improved transit time

This new export corridor through Maputo offers citrus fruit exporters from the northern region of South Africa, Mozambique, as well as Zimbabwe and Swaziland, lower CO2 emission, improved transit times, higher fruit quality at destination, and reduced logistics costs to reach new markets and get the most value from their produce.

Maputo port’s strategic location, only about 100 km from the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, a major area for citrus fruit production, reduces the distance for the transportation of citrus via trucks compared to the Port of Durban. Due to their location, some of the citrus pack stores indeed require only a 250-km round trip to the Maputo port, compared to almost 1 600 km to Durban.

This service will be available for customers until the end of the citrus season in October.

Ugo Vincent, Managing Director, Zambezi and Indian Ocean Clusters, of the CMA CGM Group commented: “Our new citrus fruit export corridor from Maputo is a solid solution for exporters in the region, and we will keep working with our partners, DP World and the Perishable Products Export Control Board of South Africa, to create more opportunities for the export of perishable produce from Maputo. This innovative solution is another example of CMA CGM’s commitment to find better ways to make shipping and logistics a more sustainable industry and constantly adapt to our customers’ needs.”
