City Deep rail siding adds capacity

In the first part of a new development, which SACD Freight sees as “a win-win situation” between it and Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), the company has opened a fully-equipped, 50-wagon rail siding at the City Deep inland port in Johannesburg, according to Gauteng-based regional director, Dennis Trotter. “We’ve doubled this siding in size,” he told FTW Online, “and have installed two 35-tonne gantry cranes to load/unload wagons, and three 45-tonne reach stackers to move containers on-and-off the stacks and about the yard.”
