City Deep logistics hub will promote intermodalism

THE CREATION of the City Deep logistics hub (CDLH) will encourage big business to move to the City Deep area, according to Freightdynamics CEO Thandeka Mgoduso. “This will, in turn, stimulate growth and improve the area,” she said. Effectively the hub will see intermodalism being achieved with road, rail and air being closer to each other. “This will see reduced costs and improved efficiency,” she said. From her company’s viewpoint, this scenario of growth in the area would bring Freightdynamics closer to its business partners. Freightdynamics already moves in excess of 170000 containers a year. “A significant portion of the total imports and exports passing through the terminal,” Mgoduso added. Transnet’s investment of more than R40-million for a B2B emarket place will ultimately create a “glass pipe” effect. “This offering better visibility for business interaction, and for Freightdynamics’ integration into customer supply chains,” she said.
