CITY BIRD, the Belgium-based freighter airline company, has joined the list of international carriers eager to fly to South Africa.
According to a spokesman for the company, their major problem at present is obtaining landing rights at Johannesburg International Airport, and an application in this respect is under consideration by the authorities in Pretoria.
In anticipation of getting this approval in the near future, City Bird is about to take delivery of two A300-600 freighters to supplement their existing fleet which will be utilised on their Far East and South American routes. South Africa will be slotted into their schedule as and when landing rights are granted.
The large A300-600s can accommodate up to 55 metric tons as a dedicated freighter.
