CFR launches bi-weekly Italy-PE service

ED RICHARDSON CFR FREIGHT has introduced a bi-weekly direct service from Italy to Port Elizabeth in order to meet demand from freight forwarders,‑says branch manager Sherrol Lacey. “The company has always tried to introduce direct services‑from‑as‑many‑origins as possible, moving away from the ‘traditional’ hubbing‑scenario.‑This means better rates and obviously far better transit times. The fact that the cargo is handled less is also a motivating factor behind opening up new direct services,” she says. CFR has also increased the frequency of its direct service out of the USA to once a week instead of fortnightly. “Again, the‑clearing‑and forwarding industry‑needed to offer their clients a weekly service. With their support, we were given the opportunity to open up more‑direct services and increase the regularity of calls,” she says. More specialised services can be expected as exports continue to grow. CFR is one of the only groupage operators to offer a direct service to the USA specially for the hunting trophy market. Lacey sees “huge potential” in this service due to the growing importance of the Eastern Cape as a hunting destination. She says CFR has taken the decision to grow with emerging industries such as the trophy business.
