Independent groupage operator CFR Freight air freight director, Stephen Bishop, is ‘cautiously optimistic’ about 2020 as he looks back on a relatively flat year with nominal growth in imports and exports. According to Bishop, the company intends to expand its air network in coming months. “Not only is this to improve our current offering to the market, but also as an attempt to stimulate growth.” He said two new offerings had already been introduced out of Germany, including a direct weekly service from Frankfurt to Cape Town. “When volumes are down, the market becomes very competitive which drives down revenue,” said Bishop, indicating that it was imperative to remain ahead of the game. He said progressive IT platforms and integration were equally important – as were ongoing staff development programmes.
