Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Evergreen Line have set aside their allegiances to the respective shipping alliances to which they belong in a slot-cooperation arrangement aimed at addressing the Transpacific capacity crunch.
ONE is part of THE Alliance and Evergreen is in Ocean Alliance – formations supposed to drive down competition between members.
However, the latest development seems to have been born out of months-long capacity constraints on routes between Asia and the US West Coast.
Ocean freight data aggregator Alphaliner has reported that ONE and Evergreen have filed a slot exchange agreement with the US Federal Maritime Commission.
According to the agreement, ONE will have access to Evergreen’s rotation, which includes Taipei-Hong Kong, Yantian, Los Angeles and Oakland.
Altogether, seven 12 000-TEU vessels run by Evergreen serve on that loop.
Evergreen, in return, will have access to a ONE rotation that links Japan with the US West Coast.
