Cargo security has become a management issue

CARGO SECURITY has moved from the warehouse to management level, says Gulf Air head of cargo, Des Vertannes. ”It’s now a strategic operational issue in our business. There are direct links between improved supply-chain security and operational efficiency,” he says. “Meeting international standards is high priority for Gulf Air, demanding constant focus on more effective security measures with minimal disruption to shippers.” Vertannes believes that the issue of security demands collective industry buy-in. “For this reason Gulf Air has invested much time and effort interfacing and co-operating with regulators, regionally and worldwide, to ensure a safe, secure and economically viable air cargo business. “There’s a need for consistency in security policies among all members of the supply chain,” he said. “Procedures should link together to form a secure environment through which goods and data move. Once goods have been cleared into the secure environment, they should no longer be subject to further procedures.”
