Cargo Info offers daily email-generated shipping schedules

Customs tariff info to be revamped CARGO INFO Africa, FTW’s sister publication on the internet, has further refined its shipping schedule information machine to offer a daily email-generated ‘Port Movements’ option. The service is offered free of charge to all Cargo Info subscribers and provides details of all ships arriving in and departing from Cape Town, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth harbours. If you’re interested, log onto www.cargoinfo.co.za, click on the Port Movements icon below FTNow on the home page, and follow the simple prompts. Users of the service are delighted to have a single port of entry, says Cargo Info editor Philipp Pfeifer, saving them the hassle of contacting multiple lines for their shipping movement information. This is one of several new developments designed to improve the quality of information on the site and to make it more easily accessible. A Cargo Info tool bar that can be added to the Internet Explorer menu will shortly become available. “Cargo Info users can download it and link directly to the website from Internet Explorer, providing quicker and easier access,” says Pfeifer. The Customs Tariff information will also shortly be upgraded to make it more user-friendly while the directory of service providers has just been revamped. A new format includes not only telephone numbers and a web link but also some information about the companies listed. Cargo Info’s increasing popularity is evident in its growing readership base. The site currently has 14 000 registered users and last month recorded 2.2 million hits.
