CapeCor shutdown begins next week
The second annual shutdown of Transnet Freight Rail’s CapeCor line will begin on November 10 and will be completed by November 14.
It’s a planned maintenance period when essential large-scale maintenance works that cannot take place during normal occupational conditions are performed. During this time specialised infrastructure maintenance and upgrade projects will be conducted over the entire section of the 231-kilometre railway line between Kimberley and De Aar in the Northern Cape. This railway corridor is one of the busiest in the country, connecting the Reef (Johannesburg) and Cape Town and Port Elizabeth
The total planned cost of the shutdown amounts to about R 67 million and includes the installation work done by contractors, material and labour cost.
