The Cape Town Air Access initiative has achieved phenomenal success since its launch in 2016, according to Cape Town executive mayor Patricia de Lille.
Ten new routes have been introduced and 12 expanded at Cape Town International Airport since the launch of the initiative.
She noted that in 2017 alone the number of arrivals of international terminal passengers had grown by 20% to 2.4 million, while airline seating capacity had almost doubled with the addition of over 1.5 million seats to the network.
International cargo volumes showed significant growth, rising by 52% during 2017, accompanied by a 17% increase in domestic cargo volumes.
