Call for more inland ports

Director of the International

Chamber of Commerce SA, Pat

Corbin, has called for a greater focus

on establishing inland ports to enable

multi-modal international transit

to and from the ten landlocked

countries in our immediate trading

area.

At present, outside of South

Africa, there are three inland ports

in Botswana and one in Swaziland.

They facilitate faster, safer and

cheaper transport and bring

their traders in close proximity to

Customs.

“This would give our landlocked

neighbours a ‘coast line’ and be

beneficial for attracting investment

to create economic activity and

employment,” says Corbin.
