As part of efforts to increase economic, trade and investment opportunities between South Africa and Nigeria, the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) is set to lead a delegation of industry leaders to a two-day conference in Lagos themed“Future Energy Nigeria”.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Nomalungelo Gina, will lead the delegation which aims to position South Africa as Nigeria’s preferred supplier of goods and services within the energy sector.
“Nigeria is currently faced with energy challenges and this presents an opportunity to South African manufacturers and suppliers of energy-related products and services,” said Gina.
“Nigeria is not only South Africa’s strategic partner on the continent, but has emerged as a priority country for South African business as it represents over two thirds of market share for South African export and investment in the West African sub-region.”
South Africa and Nigeria have had a longstanding relationship with more than 100 South African companies investing over R4bn in the West African nation.
According to Gina, a joint Trade and Investment Committee between South Africa and Nigeria, which is expected to be launched by April 2020, will enhance trade prospects even further.
