Achieving a level 1 rating –
the highest you can go on a
broad based black economic
empowerment (BBBEE)
scorecard – has its own benefits.
But, said Kuben Reddi of
Kapele Freight, getting to
level 1 plus some is even better.
“We at Kapele are not only
BEE suppliers,” he told FTW,
“but we are also a value-added
BEE supplier.
“In effect that means that
customer companies can claim
fully on their procurement spend
with us. For every R1 spent at
Kapele, they can
claim R1.69.
“It effectively makes us an
extension of the customer’s own
business.”
There are advantages for
Kapele as well, Reddi added.
“Our BEE rating allows us
to tender for government and
parastatal business – and to
suppliers to parastatals.
“Offering the maximum BEE
attainment, and with our valueadded
services, we can
more than effectively offer
solutions to our customers’
logistical needs.”
Kapele’s BEE certificate is
valid until the end of 2010.
