Developing solutions to meet customer needs
THE HANDLING of quality wines and spirits for export requires specialised expertise, a fact recognised by the UK’s third largest food retailer, Sainsbury’s, which has appointed global beverage logistics provider JF Hillebrand to manage its wine consolidation centre (WCC) in the Mother City.
This has been incorporated into Hillebrand’s Cape Town warehouse which is the largest and closest wine-specific facility to the port.
This, says business development director David Mawer, allows for increased product availability, shorter supplier lead times, reduced minimum order quantities as well as reduced stock-holding requirements in the UK
“Our involvement in setting up this form of WCC for Sainsbury’s is an example of Hillebrand’s commitment to developing solutions to meet customer requirements,” he says. The company has its own fleet of steel and flexitanks. All are available in strategically situated warehouses.
“Axis, our proprietary online logistics management tool, demonstrates our development in the field of sophisticated communication systems. Fully interactive with all of our global partners it keeps players all along the supply chain in the picture and in control regarding the whereabouts and well-being of each consignment.
