l 22 957 vehicles on Gauteng roads were booked for over-speeding; l 818 were caught driving vehicles with worn-out tyres; l 240 vehicles had faulty brakes, 121 of these were heavy goods vehicles; l 72 vehicles were taken off the road for faulty steering-wheels; of these l 39 were heavy motor vehicles; and l 398 trucks were found overloaded. During this period 1 719 vehicles were tested. Of these 958 were trucks of which 464 failed roadworthiness tests.
