An agreement between the governments of the countries using the Beira corridor is expected to be signed by the middle of the year, to pave the way for the establishment of regional private sector projects along the corridor.

BCG chief executive David Zausmer says that satisfactory progress is being made towards an agreement by Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique allowing investors from these to set up business along the corridor. It is envisaged that a central business forum will be set up, with representatives from each of the countries involved, to streamline the procedures for approving projects.

BCG, a lobbying group for the private sector in the region, is keen for private sector projects to be established so as to increase the use of Beira.
