AS THE industry awaits government finalisation of the Black Economic Empowerment codes and accreditation requirements, several agents are already reaping the benefits of their empowerment initiatives. “After installing our BEE programme in May of 2005, the fruits are now evident,” says Cargocare CEO Roland Raath. “Staff at Cargocare have just enjoyed their first benefits by way of a dividend of the profits.” The company presents its extra mile (EM) service award bonus to staff who have gone beyond the call of duty and given extraordinary service to customers, says Raath. “These nominees are based on recorded client compliments, many of which are in writing. The very good news is that some of the BEE members also received EM awards proving that our skills development programme is working to grow our staff.”
