BRITISH AIRWAYS World Cargo (BAWC) has promoted Bert Ruizendaal to the post of area manager, southern Africa. Previously operations manager for the airline’s cargo service in Johannesburg, his area of control will now include the entire country as well as Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mauritius, Namibia and Mozambique. Part of his immediate focus will be the additional cargo space the airline will have available from Cape Town to London when the Boeing 777 is re-introduced on the route from April 1. This provides greater capacity for freight than is currently available on the 747s in service. BAWC’s dedicated freighter service from Johannesburg every Friday is also under review at present. It is now calling at Cologne northbound in addition to its previous scheduled call at Accra, with London Stansted its final destination. The possibility of other routings is on the drawing boards.
