BA adds cargo capacity from CT

BRITISH AIRWAYS World Cargo is enjoying an additional seven tons of cargo capacity almost every day on its flights from Cape Town to the UK, a situation that will continue until October 31. It's the result of the airline's decision to use Boeing 777 aircraft on the route. This has increased the payload from the 18 tons afforded by 747s to 25 tons. During August a 747 will be used on the Friday flight only, with 777s on all other days. The 747 will be withdrawn during September and October when 777s will fly in daily. After the end of October the airline will revert to its 747 fleet on all Cape Town flights, which allows for more passengers in the upcoming holiday period. The arrangement does not affect the twice-a-day service between Johannesburg and London, where 747 aircraft are employed throughout.
