Automotive logistics major sets up in SA

HAVING SECURED a contract with the Renault group, recently established motor vehicle logistics specialist, CAT-WWL Logistics, has established a fully-fledged operation in South Africa. The Durban-based company has been operating for the past year on a contract basis but will now be aggressively targeting not only the automotive industry but also the agricultural and construction machinery sectors. A joint venture between Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, the global Scandinavian shipping and logistics company, and the French-based Compagnie d’Affrètement et de Transport (CAT) Group, the company is headed up by managing director Rune Loew. A former vice-president of global business development for ocean services of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, Loew believes that the company’s management solutions will add value to the market. “We handle the inland logistics of some six million cars and can therefore bring a lot of competence in terms of system solutions,” says Loew, “ensuring full visibility of the vehicles from the factory to the dealer - as well as contract management services to vehicle makers.”
