THINKING ‘inside the box’ is a philosophy that’s paid dividends for Safmarine in developing its automotive business with China. “When it comes to shipping fully-built up (FBU) vehicles by sea, Safmarine has for the past 30 years been offering auto exporters and importers an alternative to the use of car carriers. “A number of auto manufacturers worldwide are finding containers a more practical option for shipping FBU units, particularly to new and smaller niche markets,” says Safmarine region executive Alan Jones. “This trend is being driven by the development of new racking systems which allow up to four vehicles to be safely shipped in one box,” he told FTW.
