The growth in automotive exports has resulted in positive growth for many of our top 30 IATA agents, with specialist divisions catering for the industry’s specialist needs. Sidestepping currency issues WITH A firm increase of 26.1% in IATA turnover, Jonen Freight recorded R23.7-million for 2003 and took 24th spot in the Top 30. The dollar going for a “ball of chalk” was the news of the year, according to MD Detlev Duve. “But we were more fortunate in that a lot of our contracts were organised so the currency exchange rate didn’t affect us as much as the others,” he told FTW. “And we hope that this carries on.” Duve sees Africa as the only profitable destination for airfreight exports. “The other markets will probably show volume growth,” he said, “but they are unlikely to be real money-making increases for airfreight agents.”
