APM Group sells off IT subsidiary

AP Moller - Maersk has sold off its fully-owned subsidiary Maersk Data to IBM Danmark. The rationale is simple, says Maersk Data chairman Jess Soderberg. “The AP Moller - Maersk Group has a growing need for advanced IT solutions globally. Maersk Data, being our preferred supplier and leading IT business in the Nordic countries, may find it difficult to fulfil this role in the future without making considerable new investments and acquisitions. “With IBM as the new owner Maersk Data is able to continue its development and reach the global dimension that the Group and other Maersk Data customers require.” Competition authorities are expected to give their approval in 3-5 months. The purchase price and other conditions of the sale have not been made public.
