There has been a “slight increase” in airfreight volumes between Johannesburg and Ndola and Lusaka, according to Alwyn Rautenbach, executive manager: cargo at Airlink.

There is a “variety of freight moving from South Africa into Zambia, including urgent machinery spares and live animals,” says Tshepo Tladi, Airlink sales and marketing manager.

Airlink operates two flights a day between Johannesburg and Ndola, Monday to Friday, and once a day over weekends.

It flies to Lusaka six days a week, with two flights on week days and one on Sunday. Airlink has also introduced a daily (except Saturdays) Cape TownVictoria Falls service, which can be used for airfreight into Livingstone and southern Zambia.

“Getting freight into Zambia is made easier as we have double daily flights from Monday to Friday and single operations on Saturday and Sunday into both Lusaka and Ndola.

“Shipments reach there in three hours, and this is vital for any urgent or special freight that needs to be shipped into and out of Zambia,” adds Tladi.

Rautenbach expects further growth in airfreight volumes as the Zambian economy recovers.
