Airfreight demand down

Airfreight demand in July was down 3.2% on the same month last year, according to figures released by the International Air Transport Association (Iata). The figures reveal slower growth in both freight and air travel, with considerable variation by region and market. Iata says airlines have responded by reducing the capacity added to markets. “The uncertain economic outlook is having a negative impact on demand for air transport,” said Tony Tyler, Iata’s director general and CEO. “Middle East carriers recorded a 16% increase in demand year-on-year but all other markets experienced declines and the small recovery seen since the end of 2011 has stagnated.”
