Air Zimbabwe has taken delivery of its second Embraer ERJ 145 50-seater narrow-bodied aircraft, and a Boeing 737 already in its fleet has been refurbished to fly the Harare-Dar Es Salaam route.

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister, Felix Mhona, cut the ribbon as he announced the arrival of the new aircraft at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, saying that it was another step to resuscitate the airline.

“I wish to singularly congratulate the Air Zimbabwe board and management for their remarkable leadership in the procurement of this national asset,” Mhona said.

He added that Air Zimbabwe is to play a key role in elevating Zimbabwe to an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

The growth of the airline facilitates the opening of and connection to markets and trade and enables industries to penetrate global supply chains.

He said the airline had weathered significant turbulence in the past few years, particularly with the imposition of sanctions by some nations.

Embraer is a Brazilian aircraft manufacturer that is acknowledged as one of the largest commercial aircraft companies in the world, with 8000 of its various models in service worldwide.
