Agriculture keeps logistics industry moving

ED RICHARDSON ONE OF the most significant drivers of the logistics industry in the Eastern Cape is agriculture. According to the Census of Agricultural Provincial Statistics 2002 – Eastern Cape by Stats SA - the gross farming income was R3213.9 million in the province, compared with R2340.7 million in 1993. Gross farming income in the province was earned mostly from animal products (R1119 million) then animals (R1104 million); horticulture (R833million) and field crops (R184million). There are 4376 farming units in the province, with Humansdorp, Cradock and Albert as the farming capitals.
