Johannesburg Express Cargo is on the threshold of a new era.
The Johannesburg-based company, established nine years ago to represent the interests of the giant Hong Kong-based Scanwell Group, has developed a sound reputation in the automotive logistics field.
But new expansion plans are on the cards.
Following a global Scanwell agency meeting held in the Far East earlier this month, a decision was taken to refocus the Scanwell product from forwarding to a fully integrated option and to extend its reach within Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
“Scanwell Freight Express has recognised the changing industry trends and has switched focus from a parcel business to a full logistics company,” says JEC managing director LŸr Freerks.
In line with this decision, JEC has been appointed to represent southern African countries as well as the Indian Ocean Islands of Mauritius and Madagascar. And with the benefits flowing from AGOA, Freerks sees plenty of opportunity to grow the market.
“Our impeccable contacts in the Far East, built up not only through our business association with the Scanwell Group but over years in the industry, will place us in an enviable position in terms of sourcing textiles for AGOA projects.
“Scanwell Freight Express is also very well represented in the US which adds an additional edge for the re-export of finished goods under AGOA. Our vast experience in the automotive logistics industry will provide significant benefits as we extend our reach.”
JEC has already appointed an agent in Kenya and is currently looking for representatives in Namibia and Zimbabwe as well as a joint venture in the Indian Ocean Islands.
The Scanwell Freight Express global network includes 31 offices in Asia, 15 in PRC, eight in the USA, two in Canada and one in the Dominican Republic.
