ACR considers expanding trucking capacity

AIRLINE CARGO Resources (ACR) could well add more vehicles on its Johannesburg-Cape Town trucking service to meet the demands of the perishable season.
"We will have the capacity to bring in perishables from the Cape for northbound flights from Johannesburg," says ACR general manager Simon Lott.
"The Cape Town run has proved very successful since we started it on May 1. It took a little longer than our Durban operation which was a success from the kick-off, but now we are finding regular loads filling up in both directions."
With a vehicle based in each centre on both services - they cross midway through the daily run - ACR is now looking to double frequency on the Durban schedule. Loads are increasing all the time, says Lott, and having two trucks travelling in both directions daily is becoming a strong possibility in the near future.
At the same time ACR has been called on by South African Airways to carry both cargo and equipment for the airline to and from both centres. This is in addition to serving the needs of the various airlines for which ACR is the appointed ground handler.
"Moving to perishables will prove no problem. All of our trucks are reefer equipped and everything we carry is palletised anyway," he says.
ACR has arranged R5million insurance cover on every load carried, with spot insurance available when special loads of greater value are contracted.
