225 ton mobile gantry gets to work in Durban

ADDING A new dimension to Lovemore Bros’ ability to cope with very heavy loads in awkward positions is its new 225ton capacity mobile gantry which arrived by sea from the USA late last month. Designed and built in Milwaukee, the versatile equipment was carefully selected as the safest and most reliable gantry on the market in the USA, according to Rob Lovemore, managing director of the Durban-based machine moving and rigging specialists. “Mobile gantries are widely used around the world,” says Lovemore, “and our customers demand the latest in lifting techniques. “The gantry also gives us the ability to load very heavy loads onto abnormal lowbed vehicles without hiring in expensive mobile cranes. The site establishment and hiring charges of mobile cranes with capacities of over 150 tons are prohibitively expensive.” A gas powered engine drives a sophisticated hydraulic powerpack which in turn powers the lifting cylinders. The operator has pressure and height read-outs which enable him to keep in full control from a remote station. Within 10 days of arrival in Durban, the gantry was in action removing escalators from the La Lucia Mall. “The safety and versatility of operation confirmed the potential of the gantry to make a big impact on the rigging scene,” he said.
