Zimbabwe has introduced surveillance and precautionary measures at all the country’s ports of entry to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo, said that to date no suspected cases have been detected in the country.
“We have been following the guidelines provided by the World Health Organization and have moved swiftly to make sure all our ports of entry are secure, he said.
“We are screening all people from coronavirus-affected areas so that we are ready. Our facilities have requisite capacity and we will stay on high alert.”
The Epidemiology and Disease Control Director for the Department of Health and Child Care, Dr Portia Manangazira, said that quarantine rooms and isolation units had been set up at the country’s ports of entry and selected hospitals in the country respectively to handle any suspected case of coronavirus.
“Staff at the country’s ports of entry have also been trained to screen and handle all suspected cases and there is no need to panic. Tourists should continue visiting Zimbabwe,” she said.
