Young talent recognised

Michael de Witt of Schenker South Africa has been named the South African Young Freight Forwarder of the Year. Awarded a trophy and a laptop computer at the annual Saaff conference in Ekurhuleni, De Witt was one of twelve entrants in the competition. “It has been very challenging at times, but it has been an amazing learning opportunity that has taught me so much,” he told FTW. “It has exposed me to a variety of things that I would not otherwise have come into contact with at this stage of my career.” De Witt now goes forward as a Quarter Finalist for the Region: Africa, Middle-East (RAME) in the Fiata – Young International Freight Forwarder of 2011. The overall winner of this competition is announced at the Fiata World Congress in October every year. South Africa has for the past three consecutive years represented RAME at the Fiata competition. According to Saaff chairman, Basil Pietersen, the competition is aimed at developing young talent in the freight forwarding industry. “It is extremely important that we develop and nurture the skills of young people in our industry,” he said.
