Xeneta expands dataset through eeSea acquisition

Maritime intelligence platform Xeneta has acquired eeSea, a fellow Copenhagen company specialising in ocean freight and related supply chain data.

The acquisition of the analytics consultancy gives Xeneta access to extensive global schedule, transit time and reliability data.

According to Xeneta, the integration with its already comprehensive portfolio of freight rate information is expected to provide beneficial cargo owner (BCO) procurement teams with enhanced capabilities.

Most importantly, Xeneta clients will in future be able to manage freight contracts and supplier relationships based not only on cost but also on service performance metrics.

CEO Patrik Berglund described the acquisition as a milestone for the company.

He emphasised that previous collaboration with eeSea – and the subsequent fusion of their data and expertise – would promote their shared goal of increasing transparency and efficiency in the ocean freight market.

Berglund highlighted that the combined datasets would provide customers with more valuable insights, enabling them to better control freight expenditure while ensuring reliable delivery schedules.

The acquisition reflects a broader trend in the shipping industry, where data-driven decision-making is becoming central to optimising supply chain performance.

Through an expanded dataset, Xeneta aims to navigate the complexities of maritime logistics more effectively, balancing cost considerations with service quality to help clients make informed procurement choices.
