Construction of Harare's controversial new R500 million airport will begin this month. The work is being carried out by Air Harbour Technologies, a company owned by President Mugabe's nephew, which was awarded the tender in spite of being underbid by at least four other companies. The company is nominally based in Cyprus and the announcement of the construction date follows only two weeks after a visit by Mugabe to the island.

No date has been set for completion of the work.
