The Transport Education and Training Authority (Teta) has partnered with Empowaworx to host an Empowayouth summit in the Free State and Cape Town in the coming weeks.

The first event, which runs in Thaba Nchu in the Free State from 26-28 September, will bring together 1 500 youth for the three-day summit, featuring 100 speakers and a diverse array of workshops and discussions focused on industries such as transport, energy and agriculture.  The summit will then move to Cape Town from 26-28 October where the same programme will be run.

The upcoming youth summits follow the training authority’s recent collaboration with the Empowawomen Leadership Summit, which highlighted the achievements of 1 000 women across various industries. The event featured a full day of masterclasses, panel discussions, networking, and mentorship specifically tailored to empower women in the male-dominated transport industry.

“At Teta, we believe in the power of education and training to drive meaningful change. Our partnerships with Empowawomen and Empowayouth reflect our dedication to creating inclusive environments that empower women and youth alike,” said Maphefo Anno-Frempong, CEO of Teta.

“By focusing on these key demographics, we are not only enhancing the transport sector but also contributing to broader societal transformation.”

Teta is also planning to mark National Transport Month at Empowawomen’s Women in Transport summit, scheduled to take place in Nelspruit on 30 October. It will include insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and workshops to empower women across the transport value chain.

Dumisile Le Roux, Acting General Manager of Empowaworx and Head of Empowayouth, highlighted the importance of these collaborations.

“Our partnership with Teta is a prime example of how strategic alliances can drive meaningful impact. By working together, we are creating invaluable opportunities for women and youth to gain essential skills, access mentorship, and pursue their aspirations. These initiatives are vital in bridging gaps and fostering sustainable growth in both the transport sector and the broader economy,” said Le Roux.
