MORE THAN 90% of manufacturing companies that formed part of a survey undertaken by Beverley Kujawa for her D. Com (Logistics Management) at RAU University indicated that dependability and reliability, convenience and availability, and price were important criteria when selecting logistics service providers.
They also ranked the following, in order of preference, as important issues: flexibility in operations, mutual consideration, customer orientation, management expertise, security and safety, financial strength, historical performance, organisational involvement, geographical presence, company compatibility, ability to grow, range or services, change orientation, labour relations, latest technology, process re-engineering, and maintenance policies of the provider.
Also important to them was understanding of the industry in which the user operates, knowledge of the business, response time, image, and ability to communicate in Afrikaans.
