The WCO secretary general (SG) addressed the opening session of the 54th International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (Fiata) World Congress held in Dublin, Ireland, from 03 to 08 October.
Fiata’s president highlighted the many challenges faced by members in today's trading environment, especially with the need to comply with the multiplicity of different rules in international trade.
The WCO SG reminded delegates that the WCO was a standard-setting organisation, working with commercial operators to facilitate international trade and that it played an important role in coordinating border management, bringing together the various agencies to reduce delays at borders.
In addition, the WCO will play a central role in the implementation of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which is based on the WCO Revised Kyoto Convention. According to the WCO’s SG, the trading environment constantly evolves, and the WCO expects digital trade and e-commerce to continue to impact on how operators in the logistics sector do business.
