Technology plays a central role in the Western Cape’s provincial freight strategy that has set itself the goal of improving suitable technology and innovation in the province. According to advocate Kyle Reinecke, deputy director of general transport management in the province, technology will improve freight transport delivery while at the same time mitigating some of the negative impacts of freight movements. Already the Western Cape has developed a transport intelligence hub (ITIH) that collates data and links aspects of transport regulation, planning and operations to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the transportrelated services.
