All the necessary logistics support systems are in place in Walvis Bay to support major infrastructure projects planned for Botswana, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, says Juan Muller, branch manager Röhlig-Grindrod Namibia.

“Our harbour is relatively uncongested and the road infrastructure is excellent,” he says.

While the rates for port services and clearing may be “slightly higher” than those in other ports, there are savings on transit time and security which more than offset the costs, he says.

“Grindrod South Africa is increasingly involving us in tenders they are submitting for imports and exports,” he says.

Rohlig-Grindrod Namibia has helped shippers save on overall logistics costs by ensuring the use of the correct tariff codes and preferred suppliers, he says.

Expertise in dealing with customs and other regulations has been honed through the export of specialised cargo over the years.

“The introduction of more direct international flights by the likes of Qatar and KLM has opened up opportunities for us to diversify our product offering.” he says.
