On 17 February 2023, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced the immediate insertion of 8-digit tariff subheadings in Chapter 30 in Part 1 of Schedule No.1 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 (Customs Duties) for vaccines used in the Expanded Programme on Immunisation for both national and provincial Departments of Health.
The tariff subheadings are:
- 3002.41.20 Bacilles Calmette Guérin (BCG)
- 3002.41.25 Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV)
- 3002.41.30 Rotavirus Vaccine (RV)
- 3002.41.35 Diphtheria, Tetanus, Acellular Pertussis (DTaP-lPV-Hib-HBV (Hexaxim))
- 3002.41.40 Inactivated Polio Vaccine, Haemophilus Influenzae Type B and Hepatitis B Combined
- 3002.41.45 Pneumococcal Conjugated (PCV)
- 3002.41.50 3Vaccine Measles
- 3002.41.55 Tetanus and reduced strength of Diphtheria Vaccine (Td Vaccine)
The General rate of customs duty is free of duty (0%) irrespective of the country of importation.
