THE NEW electronic manifest deadlines for shippers takes the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) beyond the maritime 24-hour rule “to incorporate advance electronic information for all cargo shipments to-and-from the US, pertaining to commercial trucking, air freight and rail,” said CBP commissioner, Robert Bonner. The basic deadlines for submission of customs information are: air carriers and couriers - four hours prior to arrival in/departure from the US; rail operators - two hours prior to arrival/departure at a US port of entry; inbound and outbound trucks - one hour prior to arrival in the US, and one hour before scheduled departure respectively.
