THE US company UPS has announced an amalgamation of all its SA-based package delivery and supply chain solutions units, creating a single trading entity from February 1, according to Paul Horsfall, MD of UPS SA.
“The new combined unit offers customers a single point to access both small package and global supply chain services,” he said.
“It is an exceptional opportunity for us to accelerate our ambition of becoming a leading provider in the SA marketplace.”
The new arrangement will unite all UPS-branded business units and services in this country, Horsfall added. It also sees the separation from Unitrans Express Deliveries which had provided small package services as an independent service contractor, but is now a service included in the UPS Supply Chain Solutions’ portfolio.
Headquartered in Atlanta, UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide with its stock trading on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2003 it generated a record revenue of US$33.5-billion and handled an average of 13.64-million packages a day.
