Joint venture with Bolton Maritime

UNISHIPPING FRENCH Liner Operators will open an office in South Africa in a joint venture with Bolton Maritime, their Johannesburg-based marketing agents, within the next month.
That's the word from Paris-based Unishipping managing director Daniel Berrebi, who told FTW in Johannesburg last week that the move demonstrated that the line was a serious player in the South African market.
We have shown that we can supply a reliable service. We have also decided to put on more vessels to other destinations and to look more seriously at other western and northern African and Mediterranean destinations, he said.
Breakbulk specialists Unishipping launched a monthly service between South Africa and the US Gulf and Mexico deploying well-geared, multi-purpose vessels in the 16 000 to 17 000 dwt range in September last year.
The US service has been running close to capacity, Alan Ainscow of agents Bolton Maritime told FTW. The last vessel which sailed at the end of February was full at 19 000 tons and the same is expected of the next one due to sail at the end of this month.
