The United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime handed over two patrol boats to the Ghana Marine Police Unit in Tema yesterday.

The “alligator boats” were provided through funding from the Japanese government and are part of a broader project to curb maritime crime by supporting maritime law enforcement in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

“Maritime security is indispensable not only for the safety of the people, security of the people, but also for greater trade and investment relations for Ghana with other countries,” said Japan ambassador to Ghana, Tsutomu Himeno.
