On 3 January Turkey notified the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Committee on Safeguards that it had initiated on 30 December 2018 a safeguard investigation on yarn of nylon or other polyamides, classifiable in tariff subheadings 5402.31, 5402.32.00.00.00, 5402.45, 5402.51 and 5402.61.
The reasons for the investigation is that currently available information indicates that there has been an increase in imports of yarns of nylon both in absolute terms, and relative to domestic production.
During the period analysed, there has been a negative trend in certain economic indicators, such as production, domestic sales and employment, of producers of the like product. Furthermore, imported products undercut the prices of the domestic products. Overall, the information currently available shows that there has been a deterioration in the situation of the domestic industry.
