THE TRANSPORT, storage and communication industry was the only one of eight which reported a decrease in salaries and wages at August 2000, according to figures released by Statistics South Africa.
The decrease in salaries and wages was a huge 9,9%.
The annual increases in the average monthly salaries and wages in the other seven industries was at around 6%.
The annual decrease
in the transport, storage and communication industry, she said, was due to retrenchment of highly paid employees in governmental institutions.
However, better news was that the highest average overtime hours paid per employee for August 2000, was reported by the transport, storage and communication industry.
