TPT staff deaths raise red flags

Three Transnet staff members died while on duty last year – and that was three fatalities too many, said TPT CEO Karl Socikwa. “All three deaths were motor vehicle-related and happened at the Port of Durban. In one case it was an employee who had been with Transnet for 25 years.” He said safety remained a key priority not just for TPT but Transnet as a whole. “Transnet is a company that operates heavy cranes every day, 24 hours a day.” He said avoiding fatalities of any kind was therefore important at all times.
