TFR teams up

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and Imperial Logistics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which allows both parties to explore multimodal collaboration opportunities within the logistics and transport sector which will “reduce logistics costs and remove competitive obstacles”. Speaking at the signing ceremony last week, TFR chief executive, Siyabonga Gama, hinted to reporters that this would be the first of other private industry collaborations, with another partnership announcement “being imminent”. He said this initiative will facilitate joint development of multimodal logistics services in support of Transnet’s ‘roadto- rail’ strategy and reduce the adverse impact on the national road infrastructure and reduce the cost of logistics. “It’s no secret that as fuel costs increase, the transportation of goods is becoming a major cost component of all supply chains. This partnership provides the opportunity to resolve previous competitive obstacles,” said Gama. CAPTION Imperial Logistics CEO Marius Swanepoel and Siyabonga Gama. Photo: Shannon Van Zyl
