There is no reason why South Africa’s freight and passenger rail networks can’t work more closely together in order to save resources, according to Jabulani Nkosi, general manager: ICT operations with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa). “A shared railway network is not impossible. There is much room for collaboration,” he said at the monthly Transport Forum last week. “A shared platform makes sense from a resources point of view since we have a limited resource pool in the country,” he said Nkosi said especially in terms of joint planning and monitoring it made sense for Prasa to work with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR).
